Basecamp Pricing 2026: Flat Plans, User Caps and When They Win
Basecamp pricing in 2026: Freelancer $29 a month for 5 users, Pro for 10, Pro Plus for 15, Pro Unlimited billed yearly for any headcount. The per-user plan is gone.

Basecamp costs $29/mo on Freelancer for up to 5 users and 3 active projects, $79/mo on Pro for 10 users and 8 projects, $99/mo on Pro Plus for 15 users and 12 projects, and $199/mo billed yearly on Pro Unlimited for unlimited users and projects ($329 on monthly billing). A free Personal plan runs one project for up to 3 people. There is no per-user plan, and every paid package comes with a 30-day trial and no credit card.
That lineup is days old. Basecamp's own pricing page showed a $15-per-user plan until this summer and a four-step ladder from $25 to $299 as recently as mid-October 2026, which is why most pricing pages on the web still print one of those two lists. This page carries the figures read on Basecamp's pricing page on 26 October 2026, with the dated history further down.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 236 project management tools as of October 25, 2026, and 49% of them offer a free tier, so Basecamp's one-project Personal plan is standard practice rather than a gift. The category figures are on the project management statistics page, Basecamp on Toolradar holds its record, and the full field is Toolradar's project management ranking. Whether the product itself fits your team is the Basecamp review; this page is only about the bill.
Every Basecamp plan at a glance
| Package | Price | Billing | Users | Active projects | Storage | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | Free | None | Up to 3 | 1 | 1 GB | Every core tool, AI agent and ChatGPT or Claude connectors |
| Freelancer | $29/mo | Monthly only | Up to 5 | 3 | 10 GB | 24/7/365 support |
| Pro | $79/mo | Monthly only | Up to 10 | 8 | 25 GB | Multiple tools per project, project templates |
| Pro Plus | $99/mo | Monthly only | Up to 15 | 12 | 100 GB | Time tracking |
| Pro Unlimited | $199/mo billed yearly, $329/mo monthly | Yearly or monthly | Unlimited | Unlimited | 1 TB | Enhanced admin controls, priority support, personal onboarding, payment by check, ACH or wire |
The caps are the product. An active project is one that is not archived or deleted, so a Freelancer account can hold dozens of finished projects and only three live ones, and the user cap counts every person you invite, clients and contractors included. Yearly billing exists only on Pro Unlimited, which is also the only package that can be paid by invoice.
How does Basecamp pricing work?
Basecamp charges a flat monthly fee per package, not per seat. A Pro account with 4 people and one with 10 pay the same fee, so the per-head cost falls as you fill the plan. A full Freelancer account works out at $5.80 per user, a full Pro at $7.90 and a full Pro Plus at $6.60, all our arithmetic on the printed prices. The moment you need the eleventh user or the ninth live project, the next package is the only option, because Basecamp sells no seat add-ons.
The feature split follows the same ladder. Freelancer runs one tool set per project; Pro lets a project carry several message boards, chat rooms or card tables and adds reusable templates; Pro Plus adds time tracking; Pro Unlimited adds the admin controls, priority support and onboarding. Every package, the free one included, gets the AI connectors: official ChatGPT and Claude support with MCP, plus CLI access for agents you run yourself, which Basecamp lists on each card rather than as a paid add-on.
Downgrades are allowed between paid packages only when your usage fits the smaller one, so an account with 5 live projects cannot drop to Freelancer, and no paid account can move back to the free plan. Cancelling is self-serve at any time, and a cancelled yearly plan is refunded pro rata to the card.
What each Basecamp plan is for
Personal: free, one project, three people
The free plan is a single live project with 1 GB of storage and up to 3 users, with the core tools and the AI connectors but no templates, no time tracking and one tool set per project. It is enough for a side project or a household, and the pricing FAQ says you can delete the project and start another, as long as only one exists at a time.
Freelancer: for solo operators with a few clients
Freelancer fits a consultant running up to 3 client projects at once with up to 5 people across them. The limit to watch is tools per project: with one message board, one to-do list and one schedule per project, a client project that needs separate workstreams has to wait for Pro. Support is the full 24/7/365 line, the same as the bigger packages.
Pro: the package most small teams should price first
Pro is 8 active projects, 10 users and 25 GB, and it is where templates and multiple tools per project arrive. For an agency or a product team of 6 to 10 people it is $7.90 or less a head, cheaper than Asana Starter from the eighth user by our arithmetic. The missing piece is time tracking, which costs $20 more on Pro Plus.
Pro Plus: time tracking and 15 users
Pro Plus takes the cap to 12 live projects, 15 users and 100 GB and adds time tracking, the feature a billable-hours shop needs. At 15 people it is $6.60 a head, the cheapest per-user figure on Basecamp's ladder, and $20 above Pro for five more users, four more projects and the timesheet.
Pro Unlimited: yearly or monthly, for any headcount
Pro Unlimited removes every cap, includes 1 TB with a priced extra terabyte, and is the only package with enhanced admin controls, priority support, onboarding and invoice payment. The yearly rate is $2,388 a year, paid in one lump; the monthly option costs 65% more at $329, our arithmetic on the two printed prices. Basecamp's FAQ confirms the premise: 500 users and unlimited projects still cost the single monthly figure.
When does a flat Basecamp plan beat per-user pricing?
The comparison below prices the same team on Basecamp and on the cheapest paid tier of three per-seat rivals, using each vendor's yearly-billed rate, which is its lowest. Basecamp's three smaller packages are monthly only, so this table gives the per-user vendors their best case.
| Team | Basecamp (package) | Asana Starter at $10.99 | ClickUp Unlimited at $7 | Trello Standard at $5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 users | $29 (Freelancer) | $54.95 | $35 | $25 |
| 10 users | $79 (Pro) | $109.90 | $70 | $50 |
| 15 users | $99 (Pro Plus) | $164.85 | $105 | $75 |
| 25 users | $199 (Pro Unlimited, yearly) | $274.75 | $175 | $125 |
| 50 users | Same package, same price | $549.50 | $350 | $250 |
Rates were read on Asana's pricing page, ClickUp's pricing page and Trello's pricing page on 26 October 2026, and the totals are our multiplication. Asana sells seats in bundles above 5 users, so a 12-person team pays for 15 there; the table uses team sizes that land on a bundle.
Basecamp beats Asana at every size in the table, and beats ClickUp at 5 users and from 15 users on, while a 10-person team pays $9 less on ClickUp Unlimited than on Pro. Against Trello Standard, Basecamp is only cheaper once the team passes about 40 people on Pro Unlimited's yearly rate, and against Trello Premium at $10 a seat the crossover is 20 users. On Pro Unlimited's monthly rate the break-evens move out to 30 users for Asana and 47 for ClickUp, so the yearly commitment is what makes the unlimited package pay.
Price is not the whole bill. The per-seat tools have Gantt views, dashboards and automations that Basecamp does not sell at any price, and Basecamp's active-project caps bind a team long before its user cap does. The feature side of that trade is in Asana pricing, ClickUp pricing and Trello pricing, and the ten-user comparison across seven vendors is project management software pricing compared.
What changed in Basecamp's pricing
Basecamp rewrote its price list twice in 2026, which is why three different lineups circulate.
| Date on the page | Plans and prices |
|---|---|
| December 23, 2024 and January 1, 2026 | Free (1 project); Plus at $15 per user a month with unlimited projects; Pro Unlimited at $299/mo billed yearly or $349 monthly, with 5 TB; Timesheet and Admin Pro Pack upgrades at $50/mo each |
| July 1, 2026 | Pro at $15 per user a month; Pro Unlimited at $299/mo billed yearly; 60-day trial on Pro Unlimited |
| October 2 and October 17, 2026 | Freelancer $25 (3 projects), Studio $59 (10), Pro $99 (25), Unlimited $299/mo billed yearly; 45-day trial on Unlimited; extra 5 TB at $100/mo |
| October 26, 2026 (live page) | Freelancer (3 projects, 5 users), Pro (8, 10), Pro Plus (12, 15) and Pro Unlimited at the prices in the table at the top; 30-day trials on every paid package; extra 1 TB at $50/mo |
Read as a whole, the move is from per-seat to packaged flat pricing with hard caps. The entry price rose from a single-seat rate to the Freelancer fee for up to five, while the unlimited package fell by a third on yearly billing, from $299 a month to today's rate. Users of the old Plus plan with more than ten projects live at once have no cheap equivalent any more: the first package with more than 12 active projects is Pro Unlimited. Timesheet and admin controls, formerly paid add-ons, are now bundled into Pro Plus and Pro Unlimited.
Third-party pricing pages that print $15 per user, or the four-step ladder from early October, are describing one of the earlier lists. Basecamp's own page carries no changelog, so the snapshot dates above are the only record of when each list was live. We log changes like this one in the SaaS pricing changes tracker.
Discounts, trials and the fine print
- Trials: 30 days on every paid package, no credit card, no automatic charge at the end; the account keeps running only once you enter a card.
- Non-profits get 10% off with 501(c)(3) paperwork; K-12, homeschoolers and universities get Basecamp free for class work, one account per organization.
- Yearly billing is available only on Pro Unlimited, and only there can you pay by check, ACH or wire.
- Storage beyond a package means the next package, except on Pro Unlimited, where an extra 1 TB is $50/mo.
- Guests and clients count as users on the capped packages; only Pro Unlimited lets you invite without counting.
- No downgrade to free from a paid package, and a downgrade between paid packages requires your projects and storage to fit the smaller one.
Which Basecamp plan should you pick?
Pick Freelancer if you run three or fewer client projects at a time with up to five people, and expect that fee to hold only as long as the caps do. The day a fourth live project appears, the bill becomes Pro's, so a consultant with a steady pipeline should budget for Pro from the start.
Pick Pro or Pro Plus for a team of 6 to 15: they undercut Asana and Trello Premium per head at every size, ClickUp once the package is full, and Pro Plus is the one with time tracking. Count live projects before you choose, because 8 and 12 are small numbers for an agency that opens a project per client.
Pick Pro Unlimited on yearly billing from about 30 people, where the yearly rate undercuts Asana and ClickUp, with Trello Standard the one rival still cheaper until about 40 users, and the only option with admin controls and invoice payment. Pay monthly only if the 65% premium buys you a real exit option, since a cancelled yearly plan is refunded pro rata anyway. Teams that need Gantt charts, dashboards or automations should price the best project management software ranking instead; agencies have their own shortlist in the agency ranking.
Methodology and sources
Plan prices, user and project caps, storage, features, trial terms, discounts and the downgrade and refund rules were read on Basecamp's pricing page and its FAQ on 26 October 2026. Past prices come from the dated web.archive.org copies of that page linked in the history table and are used only for the "before" comparison. Rival rates come from Asana's pricing page, ClickUp's pricing page and Trello's pricing page, read the same day. The per-user equivalents, the team totals, the yearly figures and the break-evens are our arithmetic on those printed prices. Toolradar figures are from its project management category as of October 25, 2026.

FAQ
How much does Basecamp cost per month in 2026?
Freelancer is $29/mo for up to 5 users and 3 active projects, Pro is $79/mo for 10 users and 8 projects, Pro Plus is $99/mo for 15 users and 12 projects, and Pro Unlimited is $199/mo billed yearly or $329/mo billed monthly for unlimited users, projects and 1 TB of storage. The Personal plan is free for one project and 3 people.
Does Basecamp charge per user?
Not any more. Every package is a flat monthly price with a user cap (5, 10, 15 or unlimited), and there are no seat add-ons. The $15-per-user Plus plan that Basecamp sold until mid-2026 is gone from the pricing page, so pages that quote a per-user rate are out of date.
Is Basecamp free?
Yes, for one active project, up to 3 users and 1 GB of storage on the Personal plan, with no time limit. Paid packages come with a 30-day trial that needs no credit card and does not convert automatically. Schools, homeschoolers and universities get Basecamp free for class work, and registered non-profits get 10% off.
What does Basecamp cost for 10 users?
$79/mo on Pro, which caps at exactly 10 users and 8 active projects, or Pro Plus if the team needs time tracking. The same 10 users cost $109.90 a month on Asana Starter, $70 on ClickUp Unlimited and $50 on Trello Standard at yearly rates, by our arithmetic.
Can I pay for Basecamp annually?
Only on Pro Unlimited, at $199/mo paid as $2,388 for the year, against $329/mo on monthly billing. Freelancer, Pro and Pro Plus are monthly only. A cancelled yearly plan is refunded pro rata.
Did Basecamp raise its prices in 2026?
Both ways. The entry point moved from a per-user plan to a flat Freelancer package for up to five people, and that package's $25 list price from early October rose by $4 by October 26. The unlimited package went the other way, down by a third on yearly billing, and the former paid Timesheet and Admin Pro Pack add-ons are now included in the upper packages.
