TL;DR

Foxit PDF Editor is worth the yearly seat when you change PDFs most weeks and want the price in writing before you buy. Editor is $129.99 per user for the year, or $10.99 per user a month on that same annual plan. The monthly figure is an installment, not a plan you can drop after 30 days, and a team below the volume tier still pays the card price. PDF-XChange Editor is $62 once on Windows if you would rather not renew.

  • Updated: October 20, 2026
  • Best for: Teams that want a published annual seat for PDF editing on Windows and Mac
  • Price as of October 20, 2026: From $10.99/user/mo on an annual plan, or $129.99/user/year prepaid.
  • An annual PDF editor you can prepay or pay monthly, plus a one-time version 14 license.
  • Trial: 14 days, and the trial does not ask for a card
  • Who gets a discount: Only a volume order qualifies, so a smaller team pays the card price
  • One-time license: PDF Editor 14 is still sold as a single payment
  • Tools tracked: 524 Writing and Content tools, as of October 2026

Pros

  • Editor includes OCR, compare, and Office conversion on Windows, Mac, and the web
  • The 14-day trial does not ask for a card, and Foxit PDF Reader stays free
  • Editor+ adds iOS and Android, Smart Redact, and 150 eSign envelopes a year

Cons

  • Monthly billing is an installment on an annual plan, not a month-to-month exit
  • Discounts of up to 30% start at 30 licenses, so a 20-person team pays list

Buy Foxit when the PDF is the work, and the bill has to be a number finance can approve. Twenty people on the prepaid Editor plan come to $2,599.80 a year, which is the figure to set beside a one-time Windows license or a free desktop app. A desk that only opens the occasional attachment should not start that annual seat.

Toolradar data: Foxit PDF Editor is one of 524 Writing and Content tools on the Toolradar listing we run, as of October 2026, and it drew 45 compare-page visits in the prior 30 days.

Buyers opened it next to PDFgear more than any other tool.

How we compared: the prices and plan limits in this review were read on each vendor's pricing or product page in October 2026. This is a pricing read, not a lab test. The wider desk is our best PDF editors guide, and the method is on how we rate.

What is Foxit?

Foxit PDF Editor is the desktop and browser editor Foxit sells as two subscriptions, plus a one-time license for version 14. Editor is the seat for changing the file: text and images, conversion to and from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, forms, OCR, compare, and password protection, on Windows, Mac, and the web. That seat fits a contract desk on mixed computers, not people who only open the file.

Editor+ adds the phone apps, AI Smart Redact, and a yearly allowance of eSign envelopes. Pay for the higher seat when signatures leave the desk. The free Foxit PDF Reader is a separate product, so everyone else can read without a paid seat.

A subscription also includes Foxit DMS, with shared workspaces, version history, and check-in and check-out, plus 300 AI credits a month. The one-time license drops that bundle, which is what avoiding a renewal actually costs.

How Foxit works

You start with a 14-day trial that does not ask for a card, then you pick an annual plan. Paying monthly does not make the term monthly. The pricing page offers two switches, paid in full or billed monthly, and both are labeled as annual plans. The monthly switch changes when you pay, not when you may stop.

Day to day you open the file in the desktop app or the browser, edit in place, export to Office, or send a form. Editor+ puts the same file on an iPhone or Android phone and sends signature requests you can track. Everyone else can stay on the free Reader, which keeps paid seats with the people who change files.

Small teams overpay because the volume discount waits for a large order. It covers the subscription and the perpetual license, so a team of 20 still pays the card price. Budget list price plus local tax, and do not count a discount you have not been offered.

Foxit key features

Edit, convert, OCR, and compareEssential
Editor changes text, images, and pages on Windows, Mac, and the web, and it converts to and from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. OCR makes a scan searchable, and Compare checks two versions of one PDF, so a marked-up contract stays in this seat. People who only read should stay on the free Reader.
DMS on the subscriptionEssential
Subscriptions include Foxit DMS: shared workspaces, version history, and check-in and check-out, with unlimited cloud storage, so the live file has one home instead of a chain of email copies. The one-time Editor 14 license is sold apart from this bundle, and buying once drops the shared workspace.
AI credits, then a paid pool
Each subscription includes 300 AI credits a month before any add-on. The Assistant add-on is $49.99 a year and raises that to 2,000 credits a month for summary, translation, and extraction once the included pool runs out. It also works with the free Reader, so viewing does not require an Editor seat.
Editor+ for phones, redact, and signEssential
Editor+ adds the iOS and Android apps, AI Smart Redact for removing personal data, and eSign with 150 envelopes a year. Buy the higher seat when people sign away from the desk or must strip personal data before a file goes out. A desk that only edits on a computer should stay on Editor.
Annual term, or pay once for version 14
The monthly price is an installment on a year, not an exit after one month, so a team that might stop midyear should not pick that switch. Prepaying is the lower bill for the same tools. PDF Editor 14 is the one-time license for a desk that will not renew and can skip the subscription bundle.
Volume quotes and the admin add-on
A large enough order can get a discount on the subscription or the perpetual license, under one purchase order. The headcounts priced on this page still pay the card price, so leave any saving out of the budget. The Admin Console and Foxit for Salesforce are separate quotes, and identity control or the CRM link costs extra.

Foxit pricing

Foxit prints the seat prices on its PDF Editor pricing page, read in October 2026. Prepaying the Editor year is the lower bill, and the monthly switch is an installment on that same annual plan.

A year of the monthly installment comes to $131.88, which is $1.89 more than prepaying, a small premium that still locks the year.

Five people prepaying Editor come to $649.95 a year. The same five on the monthly installment come to $659.40. Twenty people prepaying come to $2,599.80, and twenty on the installment come to $2,637.60. The tools do not change between those switches, so the installment is cash flow, not a better plan.

Editor+ is $159.99 per user prepaid, or $13.99 per user a month on the annual plan, and a year of those installments is $167.88. Five Editor+ seats prepaid come to $799.95, and twenty come to $3,199.80. That gap buys the phone apps, Smart Redact, and the yearly eSign allowance.

If nobody signs from a phone and nobody sends envelopes, approve the lower Editor seat.

PDF Editor 14, the perpetual license, is $209.99 once per user, and five of those licenses come to $1,049.95. One prepaid Editor year costs less than that one-time license. Two prepaid years come to $259.98, which passes it, so price the perpetual option before the first renewal if you expect to stay.

Only the subscriptions include DMS and the monthly AI credit allowance, which a one-time buyer gives up.

The AI Assistant add-on is $49.99 a year for 2,000 credits a month, on top of the credits already in the subscription. It also works with the free Reader, so a viewer does not need an Editor seat.

Volume discounts of up to 30% start at 30 licenses, so the five-person and twenty-person bills above are list price. Prices are subject to local tax, and an education discount applies to Editor+ for Education at checkout with a school email, though Foxit does not print the percent.

The Admin Console and Foxit for Salesforce are separate purchases, so budget them only if you actually need them.

PDF-XChange sells perpetual Windows licenses, Editor and Editor Plus, each with a year of maintenance included, on Windows 10 and later (see the product page).

A 5-user Editor pack is $277, against $310 for five single licenses, so the pack is the lower bill for five people. The closest published pack for a 20-person desk is the 25-user pack at $1,043, against $1,240 for 20 single Editor licenses.

There is no refund after the key is released, and the free build leaves 70% of features unrestricted so you can test before you pay.

Plus adds enhanced OCR, fillable forms, and document compare. Its AI assistant needs an API key you bring from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, which is a separate account from the license.

PDFgear publishes the editor as completely free, with no sign-up on the homepage, and the Windows page says the app shows no ads and no premium upsell.

There is no paid seat to invoice, which suits a zero budget and rules out a company that needs a vendor bill.

Nitro's pricing page bills PDF Standard per user per month on an annual term and adds tax at checkout, so confirm the seat before comparing it with the five-person Foxit total.

Plus adds single sign-on, domain control, and Azure Information Protection, which is why an IT team compares Nitro when those controls are the requirement. Classic is one payment for three years of the Windows desktop tools, a fixed term rather than another annual seat.

Adobe's Acrobat page describes Standard as edit, convert, sign, and password protection, and Pro as those tools plus OCR, compare, and permanent redaction. Studio adds PDF Spaces, AI Assistant, and Adobe Express Premium, a wider suite than most Editor buyers need. A subscription includes desktop, web, and mobile, and up to 100GB of cloud storage.

Acrobat Pro 2024 is a one-time desktop term of up to three years, with no web app, no mobile app, and no Document Cloud services. It fails anyone who edits in the browser rather than on the desktop.

Reader is free, so viewing alone is not a reason to buy.

Check the current price on Adobe's pricing page before you treat a year of Acrobat as cheaper or dearer than Editor, and see our Acrobat review and the PDFgear review for the rest of those two products.

Foxit pros and cons

What we like

  • Editor includes OCR, compare, and Office conversion on Windows, Mac, and the web
  • The 14-day trial does not ask for a card, and Foxit PDF Reader stays free
  • Editor+ adds iOS and Android, Smart Redact, and 150 eSign envelopes a year

What could be better

  • Monthly billing is an installment on an annual plan, not a month-to-month exit
  • Discounts of up to 30% start at 30 licenses, so a 20-person team pays list

Who Foxit is for

Foxit Editor fits a tech or ops team, or a small firm, that edits PDFs on Windows and Mac every week and wants a seat price it can put in a budget. Editor+ is the buy when the same people also sign from a phone or send up to 150 envelopes a year.

The perpetual license fits a desk that will keep the software past the first year and does not need DMS. If shared workspaces still matter, paying once is the wrong saving.

Skip Foxit when every PC is Windows and the goal is to pay once: PDF-XChange's 5-user pack is the bill that changes the math, and the PDF-XChange listing is the product record.

Skip it when the budget is zero and no support contract is required, and start with the free PDF editors guide and the PDFgear review.

Skip it when the other party requires Acrobat, and read the Acrobat review first, because their workflow beats a cheaper seat.

One-off compress and merge work belongs in the free compressors guide, and OCR-only work belongs in the free OCR guide.

Teams that mostly collect signatures should read the e-signature guide before buying Editor+ for the envelope allowance alone. Browser chores that are not editing are covered in the Smallpdf review.

The bottom line

Pay for Foxit Editor when a small team edits PDFs every week on Windows and Mac and can live with an annual seat. Five people prepaying is the line to take to finance, and the monthly installment buys the same tools for a little more.

Move to Editor+ only when phones, Smart Redact, or the envelope allowance are real work. Take the one-time license when the tool will outlast one prepaid year and you can do without DMS.

Choose PDF-XChange when the office is Windows and paying once matters more than Mac or phone apps. Choose PDFgear when the budget is zero and nobody needs a vendor invoice. Choose Nitro when IT wants single sign-on and will confirm the checkout price, and choose Acrobat when the other party decides how the file must behave.

Toolradar lists Foxit as an alternative on 11 other tool pages, as of October 2026, which is the cross-shop behind the Acrobat and Nitro profiles.

Frequently asked questions

Is Foxit PDF Editor worth it in 2026?

Yes, if you edit PDFs most weeks and want a published annual price you can hand to finance. Five people on the prepaid Editor plan come to $649.95 a year, with OCR, compare, and Office conversion included. It is a weak buy if you need a discount at 20 people, because the discount of up to 30% starts at 30 licenses. It is also a weak buy for a Windows-only office that would rather pay once for PDF-XChange.

How much does Foxit PDF Editor cost in 2026?

Editor is $129.99 per user for the year prepaid, or $10.99 per user a month on that annual plan, which totals $131.88 over twelve months. The monthly route costs a little more and still commits you for the year. Editor+ is $159.99 prepaid or $13.99 a month on the annual plan, the step up for phones, redaction, or envelopes. PDF Editor 14 is $209.99 once per user, for a desk that will stay past the first renewal. The AI add-on is $49.99 a year for 2,000 credits a month. These figures were read on Foxit's pricing page in October 2026.

Is there a free Foxit PDF editor?

Foxit PDF Reader is free for opening files, so colleagues who only read do not need a paid seat. PDF Editor is a paid product, with a 14-day trial that does not require a card. There is no free Editor tier with a daily cap on the pricing page. If the budget is zero, PDFgear publishes its editor as free, a different product covered in our free PDF editors guide.

How does Foxit compare with Adobe Acrobat?

Foxit's prepaid Editor year is a number you can put in a budget today. Acrobat Standard is the edit-and-convert tier, and Pro adds OCR, compare, and permanent redaction, with desktop, web, and mobile on the subscription and up to 100GB of storage. Pro 2024 is a one-time desktop term of up to three years, without web, mobile, or Document Cloud, so browser editing is out. Check the current price on Adobe's site, then set a year of Acrobat beside five prepaid Foxit seats. Reader is free on both sides, so viewing is not why you buy either seat.

Is PDF-XChange a cheaper replacement for Foxit?

On Windows, often yes if you will keep the software, because the bill stops after the purchase. PDF-XChange Editor is $62 once, Plus is $79 once, and a 5-user Editor pack is $277, against $649.95 for five Foxit Editor seats for one year. The 25-user pack is $1,043, the pack to compare with a Foxit desk of about twenty. You give up Mac and the phone apps, and there is no refund after the key is sent, so try the free build first. Foxit remains the fit when the team uses both Windows and Mac.
