Notion vs Confluence 2026: Which Team Wiki Costs Less?

Notion vs Confluence in 2026: Confluence Standard costs $720 a year for 10 users, Notion Plus $1,200. Plans, permissions, AI, SSO and which team should pick which.

Notion vs Confluence 2026: Which Team Wiki Costs Less?

Confluence costs less at every team size: Standard is $720 a year for 10 users, against $1,200 for Notion Plus on yearly billing, and Confluence is free for up to 10 users. Pick Notion if your wiki also has to be your project tracker, website and AI assistant; pick Confluence if you need page permissions, live in Jira or want the cheapest paid wiki per seat.

Our view: the price gap is real but rarely the deciding factor. Notion is a flexible workspace that happens to make a good wiki; Confluence is a wiki built for organizations that care who can see which page. A 10-person startup can live in either, and a 200-person company with legal and HR spaces will usually end up on Confluence or on Notion Business.

Prices were read on 19 October 2026 on Notion's pricing page, in USD, and on Confluence's pricing page and Atlassian's cloud pricing tables, which list the rates that took effect on 13 October 2026.

Toolradar data: Notion is listed as an alternative to 119 other tools on Toolradar, the software directory we run, the most of any of the 119 knowledge base tools it tracks, while Confluence is listed against 34, as of October 2026. Notion is the tool buyers cross-shop against everything; Confluence is the one they compare inside the Atlassian stack.

Question Notion Confluence Edge

SSO SAML SSO on Business Needs a separate Atlassian Guard Standard subscription below Enterprise Notion

The monthly and yearly prices are not like for like: Notion saves up to 20% on yearly billing, while Confluence's annual plans are sold in fixed user tiers. The next section compares each on the same billing basis.

What does each cost for a real team?

Yearly totals below are list prices for the same headcount on yearly billing: Notion's yearly per-member rate times the headcount, and Confluence's annual tier for that number of users.

Team size, billed yearly Notion Plus Confluence Standard Notion Business Confluence Premium
10 users $1,200 $720 $2,400 $1,400
25 users $3,000 $1,800 $6,000 $3,550
50 users $6,000 $3,600 $12,000 $7,100

Confluence Standard runs 40% below Notion Plus at every tier in the table, and Premium stays well under Notion Business too. For a 50-person team that is $2,400 a year at the entry level and $4,900 at the second tier, money that pays for a lot of Jira seats or a training budget.

Monthly billing tells the same story. A 20-person team paying month to month spends $2,880 a year on Notion Plus and $1,716 on Confluence Standard, by our arithmetic on the $12 and $7.15 rates. Atlassian charges monthly plans for the exact user count, which helps teams that change size often.

One trap sits in Confluence's annual tiers. Atlassian sells annual plans in user tiers that jump from 10 to 15, 25, 50 and 100 users. A 12-person team needs the 15-user tier at $1,050, which is still below the $1,440 that 12 Notion Plus members cost on yearly billing, but a team just over a tier line should price monthly billing before committing. Our Confluence pricing breakdown runs that comparison tier by tier.

What changed in October 2026

Atlassian raised Confluence Cloud prices on 13 October 2026. Standard went from $6.70 to $7.15 per user a month for the first 100 users, and the 10-user annual tier went from $680 to $720. Premium rose from $13.20 to $14.10 a user. Even after the rise, Confluence remains the cheaper seat.

Which free plan is better for a team?

Confluence's free plan is the better team plan, with one serious catch. It allows 10 users, 2 GB of file storage and 3 active whiteboards per user, but Atlassian's pricing page says the free plan does not allow permission settings for spaces or pages. Every user can open every page, so a team that keeps salaries, contracts or client notes in the wiki needs Standard from day one.

Notion's free plan is built for one person. Pages and blocks are unlimited for an individual but limited once a second member joins, uploads stop at 5 MB per file, page history covers 7 days and you get 10 external guests. A two-person team will hit the block limit quickly, which is the point: Notion Free is a trial for teams, not a home.

Permissions, SSO and admin control

Confluence was designed around who can see what. Standard adds the space and page permissions the free plan lacks, free guest access (up to 5 guests per paid user), 250 GB of storage and business-hours support. Premium adds unlimited storage, site analytics, 24/7 Premium Support with 1-hour responses on critical issues and a 99.9% uptime SLA backed by service credits.

Notion keeps most control features for Business: private teamspaces, granular database permissions, SAML SSO, domain verification and the option to verify any page so readers know it is current. Plus already allows unlimited guests, which suits a small company that shares freely and only needs control over who edits.

SSO is where the price gap narrows. Confluence's comparison table lists SSO and SCIM under Atlassian Guard Standard, a separate subscription on every plan below Enterprise. Notion bundles SAML SSO into Business, though SCIM provisioning sits on Enterprise. A security team that requires SSO should add the Guard quote to the Confluence column before deciding which wiki is cheaper.

AI: Notion Agent vs Rovo

Notion's AI is the stronger bundle on paper. Business includes Notion Agent for chat, writing, autofill and translation, AI Meeting Notes, Enterprise Search (beta) and research mode (beta). Free and Plus get only a limited trial of those features, so a team that wants AI every day is really pricing Business. Custom Agents, which run tasks on their own, are free to try and then cost $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits on any plan that uses them.

Confluence includes Atlassian Rovo with a monthly credit allowance per user that grows by plan, plus indexed objects for search: 100 per user on Standard and 250 on Premium. Neither Atlassian nor Notion says how far a credit goes in practice, so the allowance is best read as a ceiling to watch, not a promise of unlimited use.

Wiki depth vs workspace breadth

Confluence is the better pure wiki. Its plan comparison lists unlimited spaces and pages, a structured page tree, page versioning, macros, a template library, databases and whiteboards, and it plugs straight into Jira issues and Atlassian's goals and projects tools. Teams that write specs next to their tickets get the most from it, which is why our Jira pricing guide often ends up on the same budget line.

Notion is the better workspace. The same page that holds your handbook can hold a task database with subtasks and dependencies, a form, a chart and a published site, with custom forms, unlimited charts and custom sites from Plus. Its weakness is the reverse of its strength: with no fixed structure, a Notion wiki only stays tidy if someone owns it. Teams choosing between Notion and a note app first should read Notion vs Obsidian, and those also weighing a task tool can see ClickUp vs Notion.

Which should you pick?

  • Team of 10 or fewer with nothing sensitive in the wiki. Confluence Free, as long as you accept that everyone sees everything.
  • Engineering or product team already on Jira. Confluence Standard, for the lowest paid seat and native links to issues.
  • Startup that wants one tool for docs, tasks and a public site. Notion Plus, and budget the extra $480 a year per 10 people over Confluence Standard as the price of flexibility.
  • Company that needs SSO and AI built in. Notion Business, after pricing Confluence Premium plus an Atlassian Guard quote.
  • Regulated or large company that needs uptime guarantees and admin tooling. Confluence Premium, for the 99.9% SLA, round-the-clock support and unlimited storage.

How we compared

We read Notion's pricing page in USD, Confluence's pricing page and Atlassian's cloud pricing tables on 19 October 2026. Team totals are our arithmetic on those list prices for the same headcount and billing period, not quotes, and they leave out taxes, discounts, Atlassian Guard and Notion credits. The cross-shopping figures come from Toolradar's tool profiles. Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple, is the author. FAQ

Is Notion or Confluence better in 2026?

Confluence is better for teams that need page permissions, live in Jira or want the cheapest paid wiki, since Standard undercuts Notion Plus at every team size. Notion is better for teams that want one flexible workspace for docs, tasks, sites and AI, from $10 per member a month on yearly Plus.

Is Confluence cheaper than Notion?

Yes, at every team size we priced. On yearly billing, 25 users cost $1,800 on Confluence Standard and $3,000 on Notion Plus, and 50 users cost $7,100 on Confluence Premium against $12,000 on Notion Business.

Is Confluence free?

Yes, for up to 10 users with 2 GB of storage and community support. The free plan has no space or page permissions, so every user can see every page; a team that goes over 10 users is moved to a 7-day Standard trial.

Does Notion or Confluence include AI?

Both do. Notion bundles Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search into Business at $20 per member a month billed yearly, with a limited trial on Free and Plus. Confluence includes Rovo credits on its paid plans, rising from 25 per user a month on Standard to 150 on Enterprise.

Did Confluence raise its prices?

Yes. On 13 October 2026 Standard rose to $7.15 per user a month for the first 100 users and Premium to $14.10, and every annual tier rose with them, so renewals after that date cost more than the year before.

Can Notion replace Confluence for an engineering team?

It can hold the documents, but it loses the native Jira links, page permissions on the base paid plan and Atlassian's admin tooling. Engineering teams that run Jira usually keep Confluence and use Notion, if at all, for company-wide notes.
