Advanced is $85 and Expert $132 per seat a month on annual billing; paying monthly raises Essential to $39 and Advanced to $99. How much does an Intercom seat cost?
Every teammate who replies to customers needs a full seat, and all seats in a workspace must be on the same plan. You cannot put three agents on Essential and two managers on Advanced; the whole team moves together. There is a one-seat minimum and no maximum, and a seat is only billed once the invited teammate accepts.
Essential
Essential is the plan for a founder or a small support team. It includes the Messenger for live chat and in-app chat, the shared inbox, a ticketing system, pre-built reports, a public help center, simple automations and the Slack integration. Live chat, inbound support email, banners and tooltips are unlimited on every plan.
The limits are about scale. Essential has no workflow builder, no separate team inboxes, no round robin assignment, no custom reports and no lite seats, so a finance or engineering colleague who wants to read a conversation needs a paid seat. One seat costs $348 a year on annual billing, or $468 paid month to month.
Advanced
Advanced is where most growing teams land. It adds the workflows automation builder, multiple team inboxes, round robin assignment, a private and multilingual help center, a tickets portal, custom reports and the Salesforce and Marketo integrations. It also includes 20 lite seats at no charge for colleagues who only need to view and comment.
The jump is steep: on annual billing, an Advanced seat costs nearly three times an Essential one. For a five-agent team, that is $3,360 more a year, so the workflow builder and routing have to save real agent hours to pay back.
Expert
Expert is the plan for large or regulated support teams. It adds SSO and identity management, HIPAA support, service level agreements, multibrand Messenger and help center, workload management, team office hours, an extended API limit and a real-time dashboard, with 50 lite seats included. At $132 per seat on annual billing, it costs $1,584 per agent a year before any AI usage.
How is Fin AI priced?
Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, charged once per conversation even if Fin answers several questions in it. An outcome is counted when a customer confirms the answer helped or leaves without asking for more help, when Fin completes a configured Procedure that ends in a handoff, or when Fin qualifies or disqualifies a sales lead against your conditions.
You are not charged when a customer asks for a human, when Fin cannot answer and escalates, when Fin detects frustration and hands off, or when a Procedure fails. That makes the fee closer to pay-for-results than per-message pricing. The catch is that "leaves without asking for more help" counts as a resolution, so a customer who gives up still counts as a billable outcome. You can set a monthly outcome limit to cap the spend.
Teams that already run another helpdesk can buy Fin alone, with no seat costs and no setup or platform fees. Intercom applies a minimum monthly commitment there, giving 50 outcomes as an example, which would be $49.50 a month at the list rate.
What the seat price leaves out
Copilot, the AI assistant inside the inbox, is a separate add-on at $29 per agent a month billed annually or $35 billed monthly, for unlimited use. Without it, each agent gets 10 Copilot conversations and 10 AI auto-translation conversations free each month. A five-agent team buying Copilot on annual billing adds $1,740 a year.
Two more add-ons carry printed prices. Pro, which adds Operator for customer operations plus quality monitoring and analysis of Fin, starts at $100 a month for 500 analyzed conversations and 6,000 credits, with extra credits at $0.01 each. Proactive Support Plus, for product tours, surveys, in-app posts and mobile push, is $99 a month including 500 messages sent, with overage per message.
Channels beyond chat and inbound email are pay-as-you-go. Outbound email campaigns are charged per bulk email sent, SMS per message by region, WhatsApp per conversation, and phone by usage, with rates on separate pages. Startups can apply to the Early Stage program, which takes 93% off the first year, 50% off the second and 25% off the third, with a free year of Fin.
The trial lasts 14 days, needs no credit card, and includes all features, Fin and the add-ons. Full seats are not charged during the trial.

What a five-agent team actually pays per year
The scenarios use annual billing and five full seats. Totals multiply printed per-seat and per-outcome prices by seats or volume and 12 months, before tax and channel usage. Fin volume is the number of conversations Fin closes each month.
| Setup | Seats per year | Fin per year | Total per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential, 100 Fin outcomes a month | $1,740 | $1,188 | $2,928 |
| Essential, 500 Fin outcomes a month | $1,740 | $5,940 | $7,680 |
| Advanced, 500 Fin outcomes a month | $5,100 | $5,940 | $11,040 |
| Advanced, 500 outcomes, plus Copilot for all 5 | $6,840 | $5,940 | $12,780 |
At 500 outcomes a month, Fin costs more than the Essential seats. That is the core trade in Intercom's model: the busier Fin gets, the more the bill shifts from people to outcomes. It only pays off if those 500 conversations would otherwise need agent time, and at that rate Fin is cheap next to agent time.
Monthly billing changes the seat line only. Five Essential seats paid monthly are $2,340 a year, $600 more than annual, and Fin costs the same either way.
Zendesk prices the same team differently. Its Suite Team plan, which includes AI agents, messaging and live chat, is $55 per agent a month paid yearly, or $3,300 a year for five agents, and its AI agents bill per automated resolution at a rate the pricing page does not print. Help Scout's AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution, so 500 resolutions a month come to $4,500 a year against $5,940 for the same count of Fin outcomes. The two vendors define a billable result differently, so compare on your own conversation mix.
The full Zendesk ladder is on Zendesk pricing. For fit beyond price, the wider field is ranked in best help desk software and best live chat software, with single-tool reads in the Help Scout review and the Freshdesk review.
Is Intercom worth the price in 2026?
For a product-led company that wants chat, a help center and an AI agent in one tool, yes, on Essential or Advanced. Essential's seat undercuts Zendesk's AI-ready Suite Team, Fin comes built in rather than as a separate product, and the outcome fee means you pay nothing for conversations Fin hands to a human.
It is a weaker buy in two cases. A team with high conversation volume and simple questions can find Fin's per-outcome fee outgrowing the seats, so model your real monthly outcomes before signing. And a team that needs one or two managers on a higher plan pays that plan's price for every seat, because Intercom does not mix plans in one workspace.
Teams with almost no budget should start with free live chat software. Directory records sit at Intercom on Toolradar and Zendesk on Toolradar.
How we checked these prices
Intercom's annual and monthly seat prices, plan features, lite seat counts, the Fin outcome rules, add-on prices, Early Stage terms and the trial come from Intercom's pricing page and the help center articles on Fin and Intercom plans, pricing FAQs and seats, read on 19 October 2026. Zendesk's Suite Team rate comes from Zendesk's pricing page and Help Scout's AI Answers rate from Help Scout's pricing page, read the same day.
The cross-shopping figures come from Toolradar's October 2026 data on Intercom. Yearly totals are this page's multiplication of printed rates, not vendor quotes. Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple, wrote the page. How products are assessed is on how we rate, corrections go through the editorial policy, and the author note is on about.
FAQ
How much does Intercom cost per month in 2026?
On annual billing, Intercom costs $29 per seat a month for Essential, $85 for Advanced and $132 for Expert. Paid monthly, Essential is $39 and Advanced $99 per seat. Every plan adds the per-outcome Fin AI fee on top. Prices were read on Intercom's pricing page and help center on 19 October 2026.
How much does Fin AI cost on Intercom?
Fin costs $0.99 per outcome on every plan, charged once per conversation. An outcome is a resolved conversation, a completed Procedure ending in a handoff, or a sales qualification or disqualification. Escalations to a human are not charged, and you can set a monthly outcome limit.
Does Intercom have a free plan?
No. Intercom offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card that includes all features, Fin and the add-ons. Eligible startups can apply to the Early Stage program for 93% off the first year and a free year of Fin.
Can I use Fin without paying for Intercom seats?
Yes. Fin works with an existing helpdesk such as Zendesk or Salesforce at the same per-outcome rate, with no seat costs. A minimum monthly commitment applies, and Intercom gives 50 outcomes as an example.
Is Copilot included in Intercom plans?
Only a small allowance. Every full seat gets 10 Copilot conversations and 10 AI auto-translation conversations free each month. Unlimited Copilot is an add-on at $29 per agent a month billed annually or $35 billed monthly.
Is Intercom cheaper than Zendesk?
On seats, yes at the entry level: Intercom Essential's annual seat sits below Zendesk Suite Team at $55 per agent paid yearly, and Essential already includes the Fin AI agent. The AI usage fees decide the total, so a team where Fin closes hundreds of conversations a month should add those outcomes to the comparison.
