Toggl Track Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and the New Toggl
What the new Toggl (formerly Toggl Track) costs per user on yearly and monthly billing, what its free plan covers, and four time trackers priced on their own sites.
Toggl is worth it for a small team that bills by the hour, and the free plan is enough for up to 3 people. Starter costs $9 per user a month on annual billing or $12 on monthly billing, and it adds billable rates, team reports and a timeline. Premium costs $16 per user a month on annual billing or $24 monthly, and it adds profitability reports, timesheet approvals and SSO. In September 2026 Toggl made its new all-in-one app the flagship, so a Toggl Track sign-up today means the new Toggl. Price-first teams should look at Clockify, whose paid plans start lower.

TogglToggl Track built its name on one-click timers that people actually start, and the product sold today keeps that core while adding planning, capacity and profit reports. That change matters for buyers. In September 2026 the new Toggl, previously called Toggl 2.0 and Toggl Focus, became the company's flagship, while Toggl Track and Toggl Plan stay available and supported for existing accounts, according to Toggl's page on what changed from Track. The plans and prices in this review are the ones on Toggl's pricing page, which now sells the new Toggl.
Techpresso data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 109 time tracking tools as of October 19, 2026, and 52% of them are free, freemium or open source. The median cheapest paid plan across the 42 that publish one is $6.50 a month, so Toggl Starter on annual billing sits above the middle of the market (Toolradar time tracking category). Toggl Track is also listed as an alternative to 40 other tools there, tied with Clockify for the most in the category, which tells you who buyers cross-shop it against.
What is Toggl?
Toggl is a time tracker that turns tracked hours into billing, capacity and profit numbers. You start a timer, log time after the fact, or let the desktop app record apps and websites for later review, and each entry lands on a project, a task and a client. Paid plans attach billable rates and labor costs to those hours, so the same entries feed invoices-to-be, utilization reports and project budgets.
The anti-surveillance stance is the product's sharpest difference. Toggl's pricing page says it takes no screenshots and records no keystrokes, browsing history or location, which puts it on the opposite side from monitoring tools like Hubstaff. Teams that want tasks and time in one project tool should also read our ClickUp review, since ClickUp ships its own timer.
How Toggl works
Tracking itself is not paywalled: the Free plan includes manual and real-time timers, focus mode and calendar integrations across the web, desktop and mobile apps and the browser extension. The plan ladder decides what happens to the hours afterward. Free gives personal reports, Starter adds team reports, billable rates, tags, milestones and a timeline view, and Premium adds labor costs, profitability reports, fixed fee projects, project dashboards and timesheet approvals.
Planning now sits inside the same app. Tasks carry estimates, the timeline works as a Gantt chart, and recurring projects can roll unused hours forward. Toggl AI can create tasks or log time from a typed request, and an MCP server connects Toggl to AI assistants such as Claude. If the job is mostly scheduling the day rather than billing it, our Motion review covers the auto-scheduling approach.
Toggl key features
Toggl pricing
Every Toggl price below is in USD, per user a month, and was read on Toggl's pricing page on October 19, 2026. The annual toggle advertises a 33.3% saving, which is exact for Premium; on Starter, annual billing is 25% below the monthly rate. Two add-ons sit on top of any plan: Time Off Pro at $2 per user a month for approvals, accruals and leave policies, and Capacity Management at $5 per user a month on annual billing ($6 monthly).
Our cost scenario for a 5-person team on annual billing (our arithmetic on the printed per-user prices): Toggl Starter comes to $540 a year and Premium to $960 a year. On the same basis, Clockify Standard comes to $329.40 a year, Hubstaff Grow to $450, Harvest Teams to $540 and Timely Starter to $540. On monthly billing the same team pays $720 a year for Toggl Starter and $1,440 for Premium, so annual billing saves $180 on Starter and $480 on Premium. A team of 3 or fewer pays nothing on Free.
Methodology: the four alternatives are the time trackers Toggl names as its own comparison set, each priced on its vendor's page on the same date, with annual prices compared to annual prices: Clockify pricing, Harvest pricing, Hubstaff pricing and Timely pricing. Toolradar profiles: Toggl Track, Clockify, Harvest, Hubstaff and Timely.

What we like
- Free plan for up to 3 users with real-time timers, focus mode and Google and Outlook calendar integrations
- Starter adds billable rates and team reports, enough to bill clients from tracked hours
- No screenshots, keystroke logging or location tracking on any plan, a stated product policy
What could be better
- Profitability reports, labor costs and timesheet approvals sit on Premium, which costs twice Starter on monthly billing

- Existing Toggl Track accounts must import or sync their data to move to the new Toggl
Who Toggl is for
Toggl fits teams that sell hours: agencies, consultants, law firms and freelancers who invoice clients. Starter covers billing from tracked time, and Premium earns its higher price only when you need margin per project or locked, approved timesheets. A team of three on Free gets real timers and calendar sync at no cost, which makes Toggl one of the better free starting points for a small studio.
It is a weaker fit for two buyers. Managers who want screenshots or activity monitoring will not get them here by design, so Hubstaff suits them better. Price-first teams that only need timesheets will pay less on Clockify. Agencies still choosing their project stack should read our project management software for agencies ranking, since several of those tools now include a timer.
Best Toggl alternatives
If Toggl is not the right fit, these are the closest options.
| Tool | Best for | Starts at | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toggl | Agencies, consultants and freelancers who bill clients by the hour and want tracking without surveillance | Free for up to 3 users | Visit → |
| Clockify | Teams that want the lowest per-seat price for timesheets, approvals and invoicing | Free for up to 5 users | Visit → |
| Harvest | Service firms that want time tracking and client invoicing with Stripe and QuickBooks in one tool | Free for 1 seat and 2 projects | Visit → |
| Hubstaff | Managers of remote or field teams who want activity levels, screenshots and GPS alongside hours | No free plan, 14-day trial | Visit → |
| Timely | Small teams that want timesheets drafted automatically from app and calendar activity | No free plan, 14-day trial | Visit → |
The bottom line
Start on Toggl Free if your team is 3 people or fewer, and move to Starter when you need to bill clients from tracked hours. Premium is worth its price only for firms that report margin per project or approve timesheets before payroll. If the budget decides, Clockify covers approvals and invoicing for less, and if the employer wants activity monitoring, Hubstaff does what Toggl declines to do.
