Eight intranet platforms compared on what a 50-person company pays a year, which ones hide prices behind a demo, and where seat minimums rule small teams out.

TL;DR

Short answer: If your company already pays for Microsoft 365, SharePoint is the best intranet in 2026 because you own it: Business Basic is $7 a user a month paid yearly and includes it. For a deskless or mixed workforce, Connecteam is the cheapest real intranet we can price, at $468 a year for 50 employees on its Basic Communications plan. Bitrix24 and Zoho Connect are the budget all-in-one picks, and Simpplr and Staffbase are the quote-only platforms for larger internal comms teams.

Key facts8 tools compared: Microsoft SharePoint, Connecteam, Bitrix24, Zoho Connect, Axero, Simpplr…
  • Updated: October 25, 2026
  • Top pick: Microsoft SharePoint (best for: Companies already on Microsoft 365 that want an intranet without buying another tool)
  • Top pick price as of October 25, 2026: Microsoft SharePoint: Included in Microsoft 365 Business Basic at $7/user/mo paid yearly; Office 365 E1 at $10/user/mo paid yearly.
  • 8 tools compared: Microsoft SharePoint, Connecteam, Bitrix24, Zoho Connect, Axero, Simpplr, Staffbase, MangoApps
  • Connecteam (best for: Companies with frontline or deskless staff who need a feed, chat and surveys on their phones): Free up to 10 users; Communications Basic $29/mo for 30 users billed yearly, then $0.5 per extra user.
  • Bitrix24 (best for: Small companies that want intranet, tasks, CRM and chat in one flat-priced workspace): Free for 1-2 users; Standard $99/mo billed annually for 50 users with 100 GB; Basic $49/mo for 5 users.
  • Zoho Connect (best for: Zoho shops and budget-minded teams that want a social intranet priced per head): Enterprise $0.84/user/mo billed annually ($1 monthly), from 10 users; Forever Free after a 15-day trial.

Intranet pricing splits into two worlds, and which one you shop in matters more than any feature. Tools built for small and mid-sized companies publish a price, often a flat fee for a block of users, while the enterprise employee-experience platforms ask for a demo before they show a number. A 50-person company can spend under $500 a year or north of $6,000 for software that does the same core jobs: a news feed, a people directory, a document library and company announcements.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 38 internal comms tools as of 17 October 2026, and 74% of them are free, freemium or open source. See the internal comms category on Toolradar. That high free share is mostly chat tools; a full intranet with a directory, pages and permissions is where the paid plans start.

  • Enterprise configuration covers multiple brands, subsidiaries or regions
  • Proposals typically arrive within 3 to 5 business days

8 MangoApps logo

Pricing
Communications & Intranet suite $9/employee/mo, 200-seat minimum, annual by default; quote required.

  • Employee suites need a proposal-based quote, not a card signup

What it is

Intranet software is a private company website where employees find news, policies, documents and each other, usually with a feed for announcements, a people directory, team spaces and a mobile app for staff without a desk. It differs from team chat because content stays organized and searchable after the conversation ends.

Toolradar profiles Connecteam and Bitrix24 if you want the wider category view. Every price on this page comes from the vendor's own pricing page.

Why it matters

The billing model decides the bill more than the feature list does. Connecteam and Bitrix24 sell a flat fee for a block of users, so a 50-person company pays a few dollars per head. Microsoft and Zoho charge per user, Axero Go charges a flat monthly fee for up to 100 people, and MangoApps sells its intranet suite only from 200 employees, which rules out most small companies before features enter the conversation.

The second cost is ownership. An intranet nobody updates is dead in six months, so a platform your HR or ops lead can run without IT is worth more than one with a longer feature grid. If what you need is a document library more than a news feed, our knowledge base software guide may fit better, and our team chat comparison covers the messaging layer.

Key features to look for

Billing model
Flat fee for a user block (Connecteam, Bitrix24, Axero Go) versus per user per month (Microsoft, Zoho). Flat blocks are cheaper per head when the block is full.
Deskless access
Frontline staff need a mobile app and sign-in without a company email. Connecteam and Staffbase are built around that; Axero Go sells its mobile app as an add-on.
People directory and org chart
The feature employees use most. Axero Go includes a directory and org chart on its entry plan, and Bitrix24 includes employee profiles and company structure.
Single sign-on
Axero Go Essentials signs in with email and password only; SSO starts on Growth. MangoApps lists SSO and SCIM on every tier.
Published price
Simpplr, Staffbase and Happeo publish no list price. Budget a sales cycle of days to weeks before you see a number.

Pricing

Prices were checked on 17 October 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page: SharePoint plans, Connecteam pricing, Bitrix24 prices, Zoho Connect pricing, Axero pricing, Simpplr pricing, Staffbase pricing and MangoApps pricing. Happeo and Jostle were left out of the ranking because neither shows a usable dollar figure on its pricing page.

Cost for 50 employees for a year, on annual billing: Connecteam Basic $468 (the first 30 users plus 20 extra seats), Zoho Connect Enterprise $504, Connecteam Advanced $948, Bitrix24 Standard $1,188, Zoho Connect Ultimate $1,500, Connecteam Expert $1,908, Microsoft 365 Business Basic $4,200 (a full productivity suite, not only an intranet) and Axero Go Essentials $6,000 before its launch discount. MangoApps cannot be bought for 50 people; its 200-seat floor works out to $21,600 a year.

Methodology: we used only prices printed by the vendor, costed every tool at 50 employees on annual billing, then ranked on cost, how much of the intranet job the plan covers (feed, directory, documents, mobile) and fit for a small or mid-sized company. Quote-only tools rank below priced tools with a similar fit. We compared published plans; we did not deploy these intranets ourselves.

Mistakes to avoid
×Buying an enterprise employee-experience platform for a 50-person company. Quote-only tools bundle customer success and rollout services that a company this size rarely uses, and the published tools cover the same feed, directory and documents for a few hundred dollars a year.
×Ignoring the flat-block math. Bitrix24 Standard covers 50 users for one fee, so a company of 12 pays the same as a company of 50. Price the block that matches your real headcount, not the cheapest headline.
×Launching without an owner. The software is the cheap part. Name one person who posts weekly and keeps the directory current before you sign, or the intranet becomes another stale shared drive.
Expert tips
→Start with what you already pay for. A Microsoft 365 tenant includes SharePoint, and a team under 10 can run on Connecteam's free plan before committing to anything.
→Test the mobile experience with a frontline employee during the trial. Connecteam is built for phones, while Axero Go sells its mobile app separately, and that difference shows up in adoption.
→Ask quote-only vendors for a 50-seat and a 200-seat price in the same email. It shows how their per-head rate falls with volume and gives you a number to compare with the published tools.

The bottom line

If you run on Microsoft 365, start with SharePoint: you already pay for it, and a well-built home site covers most intranet needs. For frontline and mixed teams, Connecteam is the best value we can price, and Bitrix24 or Zoho Connect make sense when you want intranet, tasks and chat from one budget vendor. Choose Axero when you want a dedicated intranet with a published price, and talk to Simpplr or Staffbase once you have hundreds of employees and an internal comms team.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best intranet software in 2026?

For companies on Microsoft 365, SharePoint is the best choice because it is included in Business Basic at $7 a user a month paid yearly. For deskless or mixed teams, Connecteam is the best value: its Basic Communications plan costs a 50-person company $468 a year. Prices checked on vendor pages on 17 October 2026.

How much does intranet software cost for 50 employees?

On annual billing, 50 employees cost $468 a year on Connecteam Basic, $504 on Zoho Connect Enterprise, $1,188 on Bitrix24 Standard, $4,200 on Microsoft 365 Business Basic and $6,000 on Axero Go Essentials. Simpplr and Staffbase publish no list price, and MangoApps needs at least 200 seats.

Is there a free intranet software?

Connecteam's Small Business plan is free for up to 10 users with all hubs. Bitrix24 is free for 1 to 2 users, and Zoho Connect moves to a Forever Free plan after its 15-day trial. A company past 10 people will usually need a paid plan for a directory and permissions.

Is SharePoint a good intranet for a small business?

Yes, if the business already uses Microsoft 365, because SharePoint team sites come with the subscription and sit inside the same security setup. The trade-off is design time: a polished home page takes more work than turnkey tools like Connecteam or Axero.

Why do Simpplr and Staffbase not show prices?

Both price by quote. Simpplr says its price depends on company size, complexity and support level, with volume discounts from 500 employees. Staffbase says it has no generic price list and quotes frontline, whole-workforce or enterprise setups, usually within 3 to 5 business days.

What is the difference between an intranet and team chat?

Team chat is for fast conversation; an intranet is for content that must stay findable, like policies, news, the people directory and documents. Some tools combine both: Connecteam pairs a company feed with chat, and Bitrix24 bundles an activity feed, workgroups and knowledge bases.
