monday.com vs ClickUp 2026: Seat Minimums and Real Cost
ClickUp Unlimited costs $7 per user a month billed yearly, monday.com Basic $9 per seat with a 3-seat minimum. Team costs for 2, 5 and 10 people, October 2026.

ClickUp is the cheaper choice for most small teams in 2026: Unlimited costs $7 per user a month billed yearly, its free plan has no member cap, and you pay for exactly the people you add. monday.com Basic costs $9 per seat billed yearly with a 3-seat minimum. At the timeline tier the two tie at $12 per seat billed yearly, and monday.com is cheaper on monthly billing. Prices read on both vendors' pricing pages on 19 October 2026.
The real difference is how each vendor counts people. monday.com sells seats with a floor of three, and ClickUp bills every internal member of the workspace. A two-person team that outgrows the free tier pays monday.com for a third seat it does not use; a 30-person company on ClickUp pays for every colleague who logs in, even the ones who only comment. The tables below price both rules for teams of 2, 5 and 10.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 362 project management tools as of October 19, 2026, and the median cheapest paid plan among the 135 that publish a price is $15 a month. Both entry plans on this page sit well below that median, and ClickUp is listed as an alternative to 92 other tools on its Toolradar profile, one of the most cross-shopped products in the category.

Sources: monday.com pricing (work management plans) and ClickUp pricing, read 19 October 2026. monday.com says yearly billing saves 18%; ClickUp says up to 33%.
Two seat rules change how this table translates into an invoice. monday.com's paid plans start at 3 users, and teams above 40 users request a quote. ClickUp requires the whole workspace to upgrade, and its FAQ counts anyone invited from inside your organization as a paid user, guests included. Some visitors to ClickUp's pricing page are currently shown a different lineup of plan names and prices; the figures here are the standard plans on that page.
What a team actually pays per year
Every total below is our arithmetic: the list price times seats times 12 months, before tax, promotions or AI add-ons. monday.com counts 3 seats for a two-person team because of its minimum.
| Team size | ClickUp Unlimited, yearly | monday.com Basic, yearly | ClickUp Business, yearly | monday.com Standard, yearly | monday.com Pro, yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 people | $168 | $324 (3 seats billed) | $288 | $432 (3 seats billed) | $684 (3 seats billed) |
| 5 people | $420 | $540 | $720 | $720 | $1,140 |
| 10 people | $840 | $1,080 | $1,440 | $1,440 | $2,280 |
The minimum hurts small teams most. At two people, monday.com Basic costs nearly twice ClickUp Unlimited, because a third seat is billed and Basic's per-seat price is higher too. By ten people, the gap between the two entry plans narrows to $240 a year, and the timeline tiers cost exactly the same.
On monthly billing the order flips at the timeline tier. Ten seats of monday.com Standard cost $1,680 a year paid month to month, while ten ClickUp Business users cost $2,280, so a team that refuses an annual contract saves $600 on monday.com. ClickUp Unlimited billed monthly comes to $1,200 for ten users, still the cheapest paid option on the page.
Round 1: free plans. ClickUp wins
ClickUp Free Forever allows unlimited members and unlimited tasks, with collaborative docs, Kanban boards, a calendar view and sprint management. Its limits are 60MB of storage, 5 spaces, one form and 100 automation executions a month, which a team that attaches design files will hit in days.
monday.com Free stops at 2 seats, 3 boards and 3 docs. It is a sensible place for a freelancer to learn the board model, but a team of three cannot use it at all. For a group that wants to stay free, ClickUp is the only option of the two.
Round 2: entry paid plan. ClickUp wins
ClickUp Unlimited, the cheapest paid plan here, adds unlimited storage, unlimited Gantt charts, unlimited integrations and custom fields, native time tracking, goals and guests with permission controls. Timeline, workload and dashboards remain trials on this plan, so the Gantt chart is the scheduling view you actually get.
monday.com Basic adds unlimited items, unlimited free viewers with read-only access and 1,000 AI credits a month, but its feature list has no timeline, no Gantt, no guest editing and no automations. For a team that needs to schedule work, Basic is a stepping stone at best, which makes the seat minimum on top of it harder to justify.
Round 3: the timeline tier. Tie on yearly, monday.com on monthly
This is the like-for-like comparison most teams should make. monday.com Standard adds timeline and Gantt views, a calendar view, guest access, 3 workflows, 250 automation actions and 250 integration actions a month, and 2,000 AI credits. ClickUp Business adds timeline, workload and unlimited dashboards, webhooks and automation integrations, Google SSO and 5,000 automation executions a month.
Yearly, both cost the same per seat. At that price ClickUp allows far more automation runs a month, and monday.com gives a simpler board with AI credits included. On monthly billing monday.com Standard is $5 cheaper per seat, enough to decide it for a team that wants to stay flexible.
Round 4: automations. ClickUp wins below Pro
Automation limits often decide whether a tier survives a busy month. A rule that moves a task and pings a channel fires on every status change, so ten people can burn through a few hundred actions in a week. ClickUp Unlimited's 1,000 monthly executions and Business's 5,000 leave more room than monday.com Standard's 250.
monday.com closes the gap only on Pro, where automations and integrations each rise to 25,000 actions a month. That is far more headroom than ClickUp Business, but on yearly billing Pro costs noticeably more per seat than ClickUp Business. Teams that automate heavily should compare ClickUp Business with monday.com Pro rather than with Standard.
Round 5: AI. monday.com includes more by default
monday.com bundles AI credits into every paid plan: 1,000 a month on Basic, 2,000 on Standard and 3,000 on Pro, and its pricing FAQ says a typical 3-person team uses about 800 to 1,200 credits a month. Extra credits can be bought at any time.
ClickUp lists free AI usage with limits on every plan and sells fuller AI as separate add-ons: Brain AI is displayed at $9 per user a month and Everything AI at $28, with up to 20% off AI plans on yearly billing. Adding Brain AI for a whole team changes the ranking: ClickUp Unlimited plus Brain AI costs more per user than monday.com Standard with its bundled credits.
Round 6: guests and outside collaborators. Depends on the work
monday.com offers unlimited free viewers from Basic, read-only, and guests who can edit start on Standard. ClickUp's paid plans include a set number of guest seats: Unlimited gives 5 for a one-user workspace plus 2 for each additional paid user, and Business gives 10 plus 5 per additional paid user. An agency with many clients who only need to look will do better on monday.com; one whose clients edit tasks should count ClickUp's guest seats first.
Who should pick which
Pick ClickUp if your team is small, wants a free plan beyond two people, or needs Gantt charts and automations at the lowest price. Unlimited is the cheapest paid plan on this page at every team size we priced, and Business matches monday.com Standard on yearly billing with far more automation runs. The trade is a denser interface and AI sold separately; our ClickUp review covers what the product feels like to adopt.
Pick monday.com if your work is a board of requests, approvals or client projects, you want AI credits in the plan price, or you pay monthly and need a timeline view. Standard is cheaper than ClickUp Business month to month, and read-only viewers cost nothing. Budget for the 3-seat minimum and for Pro if automations matter; see our monday.com review and the monday.com pricing breakdown.
Pick neither yet if you are also weighing Asana or Notion. Our Asana vs monday.com and ClickUp vs Notion comparisons price those pairs, the ClickUp pricing page goes plan by plan, and project management software pricing compared and the best project management software ranking cover the wider field.

How we checked
monday.com prices come from monday.com's pricing page, work management plans, including its FAQ on minimum users, yearly discount and refunds, read on 19 October 2026. ClickUp prices, limits and guest rules come from ClickUp's pricing page, its comparison table and FAQ, read the same day. Team totals multiply list prices by seats and 12 months, with monday.com's 3-seat minimum applied; they are not quotes and ignore promotions, nonprofit discounts and tax. Toolradar figures come from its project management ranking and ClickUp profile as of October 19, 2026. We did not run either product for this page.
