Valve Steam Frame Headset Starts at $1,059

GeekWire (Thomas Wilde, 14 September 2026) reports that Bellevue Valve launched Steam Frame on Monday as a standalone wireless VR headset with two hand controllers. It succeeds the tethered 2019 Index. The 256GB kit is $1,059.

This is Valve's own hardware launch, a Monday shadowdrop of a product now on Steam. It is not a rumor leak.

Steam Frame runs SteamOS 3 on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with 16GB of RAM, a microSD slot, and dual 2160x2160 LCDs, one per eye. It recharges over USB-C the way a Steam Deck does. GeekWire notes it does not ship with a dedicated power supply.

Every Frame includes Half-Life: Alyx as a pack-in. Valve is using a Deck-style verification list, with more than 100 games hand-tested for the headset. Not every Steam title is verified.

PC Gamer (Jacob Ridley, 14 September 2026) has the 1TB kit at $1,299 and the lottery clock. Signups stay open until Thursday, 17 September, at 10 a.m. Pacific. Valve then runs one randomization and emails winners a reservation. Everyone else lands on a waitlist.

A signup is not a guaranteed ship date. The $1,059 starting price sits in premium territory versus Meta Quest. GeekWire flags that price as the drag on a still-niche VR market.
