Roblox to let creators ship games outside the Roblox app

Roblox is about to let creators ship their games as standalone apps on phones, PCs, and consoles, with the company running the tech underneath. CEO David Baszucki laid out the plan, called Roblox Everywhere, in an 11 September newsroom post from the Roblox Developers Conference.

Standalone apps are still framed as coming soon. Web play has a clearer date. By the end of 2026, players should be able to jump into a game in Chrome from the Experience Details Page with no app install, then more browsers later. The intended doorways are links from search, YouTube, X, or email. A Roblox footnote says availability and features will vary by age and region.

Offline solo play is aimed at mid-2027, with early access sooner. Creators will be able to switch offline on next to live multiplayer. Those are targets, not a ship date for the whole catalog.

The piece already live is Build, a prompt-to-game tab inside the Roblox app. Since a New Zealand alpha launch, creators have published about 9,000 Build games, and 71% of those creators had never used Roblox Studio. Those are Roblox's figures through 1 September 2026. The public alpha is now expanding to Serbia and Singapore, and it adds an asset library, desktop access, and iterative control.

TechCrunch covered the same RDC session as an AI-creation and distribution story. Last quarter, players spent 29 billion hours in Roblox. Creators earned about $1.7 billion in the 12 months through 30 June 2026. Wallet is slated later this year for eligible US creators 18 and older. Roblox Card is planned for 2027.

Chrome-first web play will have to live with Chrome's two-week release cycle.
