iRobot shows Roomba Duo concept at IFA

iRobot put a concept robot on the IFA floor in Berlin on 4 September 2026. Jennifer Pattison Tuohy's Verge hands-on is a booth report of that concept. It is not a shipping product announcement, and it carries no price.

The Roomba Duo pairs a heavy-duty floor-washing base with a smaller Roomba Plus 757 that sits on top and lowers on a mechanical arm for under tables and corners. The main unit is also an autonomous mobile dock, with clean and dirty water tanks and a dust bag on board. It maps with lidar and cameras.

The spec most booth write-ups skipped is mop force. The steam mop uses a large roller with 46 newtons of downward pressure. iRobot's Adam Pope called the main vacuum the most powerful the company has made. Tuohy watched a demo suck pasta off a carpet, then wash the carpet.

New CEO Hao Li, from parent Picea, presented it. Picea bought iRobot out of bankruptcy earlier this year. His line was, "The future of floor care has a familiar name."

There is still no price and no release date. Tuohy was not allowed to touch the unit or look inside, and two people had to carry it between demos. She wrote that it feels closer to a hotel or mall cleaner than a home fit. Pope said the company will take IFA feedback as development continues.

Home robots and paid autonomy sit in different buyer buckets this week. Waymo is opening public rides in Denver, San Diego and Tampa, while Tesla's Cybercab is under an NHTSA self-certification audit. Those are live fleets. Duo is a concept.

Voice interfaces such as Wispr's $280 million Series B are a separate smart-home spend line. Device telemetry, as in the US military ad-tracker cutoff, is another.

Retail buyers, smart-home leads, and robotics PMs should treat Duo as a concept signal from post-bankruptcy Picea ownership, keep it off any 2026 budget line, and wait for a named SKU with a price, a ship window, and durability data after IFA feedback.
