Apple unveils iPhone Duo foldable starting at $1,999

Apple's 9 September 2026 Newsroom press release introduces iPhone Duo, the first foldable iPhone. This is a Cupertino product launch, not a rumor roundup and not a hands-on review.

Opened, Apple calls it the thinnest iPhone ever, with a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a nano-texture finish. Closed, a 5.4-inch outer display delivers 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro. Both panels share the same aspect ratio.

The phone runs on A20 Pro, the same chip as iPhone 18 Pro models, with a custom vapor chamber and a dual-battery layout (one cell on each side). Colors are star white and night sky, in grade 5 titanium. iOS 27 is reimagined for open and closed poses, and the release pairs the hardware with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.

Pre-orders begin Friday, 16 October, at 5 a.m. PT in more than 70 countries. Availability begins Friday, 23 October. U.S. pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options, or $83.29 a month for 24 months. The design is eSIM-only worldwide.

CEO John Ternus called it "the most transformational change to iPhone since the original." Battery life, crease visibility, and durability figures in the release are Apple's own lab claims. The Newsroom release does not put Duo's thickness next to a named Android foldable.
